With these three solutions, you’re going to be able to put together everything you need for your first sales funnel. And of course, for ZERO dollars!
NOTE: This is NOT a replacement for real sales funnel software. This is just if you’re on a very, very tight budget.
This funnel will allow you to experiment with your online marketing before you invest too much cash.
We will be walking you through the following process:
- Setting up your email list
- Putting together your landing page
- Your sales page
- Getting payments
We’ll be making this FUN and EASY for you!
MailChimp – Free Account
Now, the very first thing you should do is go to mailchimp.com and create a FREE account. Yes, it’s FREE!
You don’t have to worry if it’s free. You can still do a lot with your MailChimp account, from creating and managing your email list, newsletters, and campaigns to making your landing page and sales page, which we will show you here today.
However, MailChimp has a tremendous amount of restrictions on automation now with their free plan, fortunately you can send emails for free.
Now, when you’re done creating your account, the first thing you should do is go to “audiences” and actually “create audience”.
So once you’ve done that, you’re ready to go to campaigns and create your landing page.
Create New Audience
The first page you’ll be creating is your Landing Page.
Your landing page is a form that allows you to get your visitor’s contact information, specifically their email address, in exchange for a desired offer.
Through this, you can quickly build your email list in no time.
This may be a simple page, but it is one of the most important assets your online business needs to have.
Here’s a sample you can create.
As you can see you have your headline and a nice little image.
Now, when creating your landing page, there are a lot of tools you can use out there where you can create the graphics.
There’s a free graphic design app called Canva where you can create tons of social media graphics, PDFs, eBooks, and even your landing page, and lead magnets.

When you create your landing page go to: Campaigns > Create Landing Page
Landing Page Templates
Designing your landing page is also important when attracting your prospects.
Don’t worry if you don’t know how to design your landing page, when you click BEGIN, you’ll be taken to a page where you’ll be able to select your templates.
That’s how easy and money-saving your landing page can be.
Landing Page Tip: Keep it SIMPLE when creating your first landing page, you DON’T need it to be fancy. The SIMPLER, the BETTER.
Don’t be pressured by other fancy good-looking landing pages out there. At the end of the day, what matters is how many visitors you have converted into leads. NOT how fancy your landing page is.
The good thing about MailChimp is that you can make your preferred changes to the template. You can create a headline and then use an image plus a caption block to display whatever your opt-in offer is.
Say for example, you’re doing a PDF guide or doing some sort of video, you could put a preview of that. But, take note, only put the image, you don’t need to actually put a video for testing purposes.
At the bottom, you’ll be able to drop your contact form asking for their email contact information.
So once you’ve put together your landing page, you can go ahead and click “Save and Publish”, and your landing page here is good to go.
This is your second page – your Sales Page.
Why is this your second page?
This is the page that’s going to show up right after your landing page.
Your sales page is a standalone page with ONE specific purpose: secure sales for your products.
It may just look like a simple page but your business depends on it as this page converts your visitors into paying customers.
To make your sales page, you need to go back to Campaigns and “create new campaigns”. And select your “Email List.” (The same steps you did in creating your Landing Page.)
This is kind of hacking the MailChimp a little bit.
Why? Because it’s not designed to do this but as long as you can make a web page, you can have a sales page.
NOTE: Make sure it’s the same email list as the one you selected the first time, because sometimes MailChimp doesn’t allow you to go back and change it in the free version.
*Don’t forget to give your landing page sales page a name.
When you click begin, you’ll be taken to the exact same page where you can choose your template. (The same exact page where you chose your landing page template.)
Then you can start making your sales page.
TIP: Keep it simple just like you landing page.
Video Letter Sales Page
This is the video sales letter page sample we have made, where you can add your YouTube URL for the video.
*If you’re putting together something for free all you need to do is put your sales video on YouTube as unlisted so you can embed it on the page. Do NOT do private, because private WON’T work.
Another thing, if you have a text-based sales letter or you have a sales letter that’s just going to be a series of images, you can do that on the same page as well.
*You can put as much text as you want here.
Now, the MOST important thing in your sales page is the Buy Button.
*You can also change the style.
Of course, we need people to have the ability to go to our shopping cart. This is our whole purpose after all – MAKING SALES!
In your sales page, don’t forget to remove the content block for an email opt-in, because they’ve already opted in on your landing page.
Final Preview – Sales Page
So here’s the final preview of the sales page:
As you can see in the photo above, there’s the headline, the video link, and the Buy Now link. This is all you NEED in your sales page.
Reminder: Don’t forget to click “save and close”, we need to PUBLISH this to get the URL.
You can now add your URL here as well as your page title:
You need this URL for your landing page.
Since we’re doing this for free, we’re not going to do a custom URL because this requires us to pay something.
So, here’s what your live sales page will look like.
So, we now have our sales page and then our landing page up and running.
But wait, it doesn’t end here. We’re still only halfway there.
You still need to do something to bring your customers into your sales page.
Sending visitors to your Sales Page
Yes, we still need to set this up.
You need to tell MailChimp that whenever someone enters their name and email on your landing page, you want to send them directly to your sales page.
To send you customers to your sales page, you need to go back here to your landing page. Then click on “Edit” and then click “Edit Design”.
When you’re editing your design, you’re going to scroll down your opt-in form under Content, and instead of a confirmation message you can change it to send them to a web address.
Also, click on the landing page and change it to YouTube sales page.
Save & Publish
After that entire step, click Publish.
After clicking publish, you can now drive traffic to your landing page.
As soon as your visitors enter their name and email, they will automatically be sent over to the sales page.
SHOPPING CART – Wave Accounting
Of course, your sales page is NOT COMPLETE without your Shopping Cart.
To do this, we’re going to be using something called “WaveCheckout.”
Wave Accounting is a free accounting software and they recently released a feature that allows you to collect credit card payments directly through their payment processors.
The downside is that you’re going to pay a higher fee than what you typically see on PayPal and Stripe. But the BEST thing about this is that it takes care of everything for you and you don’t have to put any money into it in order for it to work.
Still a Win-Win situation, right?
So to do this, you’ll go to waveapps.com and create a free account.
Note: WaveAccouting.com has been changed to waveapps.com.
Then you’ll be able to click on “Sales” and “Checkouts.” You’ll also be able to create a checkout form.
*Give it a name, a price and then a success message.
Here in this success message you can set it up in two ways:
1. By putting a link directly to what they just purchased right in this message that pops up; or
2. You can use a free tool called “Zapier,” to connect Wave with MailChimp.
*Here, you can set up a separate audience and whenever someone fills out the checkout form, they’ll automatically be added to another sequence in MailChimp. MailChimp will then send them the information that they need.
But here we’re just going to keep it simple and do a Confirmation Message.
Click “Save” and then “Turn On”, then you will be able to preview what your shopping cart looks like.
As you can see, it’s very basic, very simple!
Take note: You don’t have to worry about SSL or collecting credit card information and all that fun stuff, WaveAccounting takes care of it.
However, we do NEED that URL, because we need to go back to our sales page and update the Buy Now link.
Update Buy Now Link
So to do this, go back to the sales page under Campaigns, click the drop down to edit and then go to edit the design, and we’ll just update the link of the Buy Now button.
*put the URL in the web address
NOTE: Make sure it’s actually working.
Go to a preview of your live sales page and when we click on buy now, all of a sudden we’ll be taken to the Wave apps page, where someone can enter their payment information in order to purchase.
When this happens, then you know you’re doing everything right!
So we’ve created a landing page where you can collect prospects emails, and then once they enter their email address, they’ll go ahead and be taken to your sales page, and then in your email sequences, you can send them back to the sales page.
Also, you have your welcome email that you can send automatically, and then your landing page and your confirmation URL will both send people to your sales page.
Lastly, on your sales page, you can have a Buy Now button and when people click that they’ll be taken to your checkout page, where you can collect payments.
Likewise, you can either have an email go out from MailChimp, telling them where to get their stuff or, how to get started working with you or, you can have a success message pop up right there with links to what they need to do next.
Last Tip: Though you can create a sales funnel for free with these software solutions, however, we do not recommend using a free sales funnel for very long.
